What are the symptoms of overactive bladder (OAB)?
Individuals with OAB feel a sudden urge to urinate that is often difficult to control. They may experience urinary incontinence which is the involuntary loss of urine which occurs after the intense urge to urinate. Those with overactive bladder may also urinate frequently, often eight or more times during a 24 hour period and may wake up more than two times in the night to urinate.
What causes overactive bladder?
Overactive bladder occurs when the muscles of the bladder start to contract when the volume of urine is low. While the specific cause of an overactive bladder may be unknown, there are several conditions that may contribute to the symptoms. Among them are neurological disorders like a stroke, diabetes, urinary tract infections, hormonal changes during menopause, tumors in the bladder, bladder stones, and factors that inhibit urine leaving the bladder like constipation. Cognitive function decline, drinking too much caffeine or alcohol and incomplete bladder emptying result in overactive bladder symptoms.
How can you alleviate OAB symptoms with hypnosis?
Dana Hypnotherapy can help you find relief from your overactive bladder symptoms with 8 online sessions, each lasting between 60-90 minutes. The techniques used in each session are the same as those used by the National Institutes of Health in their 4-year, 3 million dollar study on overactive bladder and urinary urgency incontinence. The study concluded that hypnotherapy was equally effective, and in some cases superior, to that of standard medical treatment. To receive hypnotherapy for overactive bladder, you must provide a referral from your medical doctor.
How do hypnotherapy sessions work?
The hypnotherapy sessions are 60-90 minutes, once per week for eight weeks.
-
During your first session, you will gain an understanding of the mind and learn how and why hypnosis works. You will enjoy a guided relaxation induction and receive overactive bladder suggestions.
-
In your second session, you will learn how to do self hypnosis and create an “inner healing space” in your mind. There you will feel at peace and will use healing images and suggestions to assist the bladder to function optimally.
-
The third session deals with emotions associated with urinary urgency and/or incontinence. Certain emotions may trigger an onset of a symptom or may result from a symptom and make it worse. Being able to process these emotions helps you to reach your goal more quickly.
-
During the fourth session, we will develop your personalized healing script. You will receive a customized recording with healing suggestions specifically tailored to you, encompassing what you need to heal according to your history and experience with OAB.
-
The fifth session is all about aligning your seven neurological levels with each other and with your goal. These levels are spirit, identity, values, beliefs, capability, behavior and environment.
-
During the sixth session, we will explore an incident that still brings up uncomfortable emotions related to your self-esteem, an incident that is preventing you from achieving your goal or the actual time when your symptoms were first experienced. We will integrate positive resources to help reframe those incidents.
-
What happens during session seven is dependent on your needs. In some cases, another inner wisdom integration™ protocol is required while in other cases a trauma reversal of a specific event related to the OAB is called for.
-
During your eighth and final session, you will receive guidance from your inner wisdom. In this session you will guided through beautiful imagery of earth and sky and gain insights from the wise, all-knowing part of you.
